ABOUT ME

I am an average woman, sometimes dull and sometimes bored. I look in the mirror with distaste, but without disgust. I accept life as it is, and it is pretty cool life. I have a rather strict mind and my interests for long time have oscillated more around probability calculus and game theory than lofty artistic sensations. My studies, also along strict lines, though without commitment or consistency. The result: I work for a living, sometimes cleaning, washing, cooking, occasionally ironing and washing for self-realisation. I usually think logically, although apparently not very consistently. Fate, which has been throwing up all sorts of surprises lately, has led to a situation in which, in between daily life, I have had the overwhelming desire to do something else. What you can find here is the result of both my professional and (partly) private life. I am fortunate that to some extent my private passions overlap with my professional challenges, so I apologise in advance for the perhaps shocking combination of topics for some.

ABOUT THE WEBSIDE

Working at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, I had the privilege of meeting many former prisoners of the camp, and it had a great impact on my life, and allowed me to delve a little deeper into two topics that were close to my heart. The first is the music in Auschwitz, not only the official played by the camp orchestras, but also the illegal, sometimes played at the risk of one’s life, “to lift the spirits”. The camp songs are fascinating, as are the fates of the musicians deported to the camp. Thanks to the cooperation of many friendly people, it was possible to reconstruct some pieces and about which you can read more at: MUSIC IN AUSCHWITZ.

Camp sport and the profiles of sports people who were deported to Auschwitz is another fascinating topic.  In the camp there was pseudo-sport, that is, exhausting physical exercise combined with drill, as well as sport in the traditional sense. Football, volleyball and basketball matches were played, boxing, wrestling and even athletics and water sports: swimming, water ball and water jumping. Chess, bridge and checkers were played. And although sport was not a common phenomenon in the camp, many prisoners in post-war accounts appreciated its role in the social life of the camp. Some information on this subject can be found at SPORT IN AUSCHWITZ

I haven’t drawn or painted until recently, but I feel the urge to smear a piece of paper with something. Wax crayons were perfect for drawing my favourite flowers. Later, flowers were joined by landscapes and, more recently, reflections of my experiences, phobias and fears. Recently, canvas has joined the sheets of paper, wax crayons have been joined by paints and the result of what is created on them is MY PAINTING. I like the simplest forms, and one of them is a square, which is why most of my works have this shape, and if it is a phobia, it is overwhelming and terrifying, so in addition to small works, there are also large formats and aggressive colors.

I realize that today’s world is rushing very fast, the Internet is a medium that is difficult to compete with. Some of my projects have been presented online, published in video, audio or written form, and sometimes in form of short films, links to which can be found on MEDIA. I hope that this collection of available materials will grow, because there are quite a few topics that interest me to work on.
